A funny and touching lecture about death.
Ruth and Étienne Palin are husband and wife. Tonight, for their very last lecture, they tackle a huge and universal subject: Death.
They want to understand what happens before, during and after the fateful moment when everything comes to an end. They put themselves in the shoes of a couple, Mr and Mrs 'everyone', and act out the death of one of them. They have prepared everything to live up to the theme. But once on stage, facing the audience, they are sucked into the abyss of the subject. Practical questions lead to endless philosophical interrogations. It's a black hole. He is gripped by anxiety. She wants to put on a brave face. The couple is teetering. Is this the end?
The conference turns into a show. We laugh and are moved by these two clowns struggling with the idea of death, that dark, cold, impenetrable thing about which we know nothing.
