For the second exhibition of its ‘Ruralité’ season, Le Quai (294M9) welcomes Aurélie Ferruel and Florentine Guédon, two artists who have been working together since 2010 and who share a practice centred on the living world.
This exhibition presents a collection of wooden sculptures, glass pieces, ceramics and textiles linked by cob elements made from materials (hay bales, earth) gathered in the vicinity of Le Quai (294M9). This new narrative, as is customary for this duo hailing from the countryside, places great emphasis on the relationship with others.
"No more being scattered.
We stand united thanks to the earth that traces our outlines, binds us together and embraces us in a tight mass. We cling to one another.
Our ancestors’ hands have dug too deep to reach the tubers. Now sculpted by their repeated movements, they cling to the wall to watch the frogs as their bodies are sucked dry by diaphanous leeches.
The aged bodies, their skin sagging over their shoulders, can no longer walk properly. They remain seated beside a recumbent body, its eyes widened by wheat grains. We strain our ears to hear their whispers.
At their feet, one can observe the fruit set of an apple tree. It glistens—is it dew or frost?
And in the midst of it all, a dog is vomiting its guts out."
